Essay

The object is the droughts in Ukraine; the aim is to reveal the features of the spatiotemporal distribution of drought in Ukraine under current climate change and to define their connection to large-scale atmospheric processes; methods are the climatic analysis, mathematical statistics (empirical orthogonal functions), time-frequency analysis method (change-point analysis and wavelet transform); the results are (i) the quantitative estimations of the spatial variability for the frequency, duration and severity of different types of drought, (ii) regional features of the temporal distribution of drought in Ukraine and their impact on different environmental areas, (iii) the influence of the major climate variability modes in Euro-Atlantic sector on the formation of droughts in Ukraine; the novelty is the investigation of spatiotemporal distribution of drought in Ukraine under modern climate change; the implementation degree - implemented; the branch of using - hydrometeorological centers.
