Holinatyi O. The oykonyms of Kirovohrad region: historic-etymological and word formative aspects

Object:Object: the names of settlements within present Kirovohrad region. Objective: to analyze the origin of the names of settlements of Kirovohrad region in connection with basic principles and motives of nomination, and to study the methods and types of word formation of the oykonyms of the region. Methods: historical and comparative method based on etymological analysis; descriptive method with systematization and scientific interpretation; linguistic geography; techniques of quantitative calculations. Scientific novelty: a complex synchronic and diachronic analysis of the oykonyms of Kirovohrad region has been carried out for the first time. Practical value: possibility to use in teaching courses in Ukrainian Lexicology and special courses in Onomastics. “Historical-Etymological Dictionary of the Oykonyms of Kirovohrad Region” may be used for compiling generalized lexicographic works in toponymy.
