In the thesis paper, the method of forming the health retaining competence among university students in the process of physical education is discussed. The basis of the health retaining competence consists in value, cognitive and activity components. Methodologys of the health retaining competence formation involves the relationship of all components of the educational process along with compliance with defined goals, objectives, principles, pedagogical conditions, methods, tools, forms and stages of education.
