The given thesis covers the study on the origins of the principal scientific ideas of the contemporary defectology, their analysis and reconsideration in the light of current issues of speech therapy and education of individuals with hearing impairments within the context of the scientific, teaching and educational activity of R. H. Krayevskyi. The thesis describes four periods in scientific, educational and creative work of Rudolph Krayevskyi. The thesis defines main scientific achievements of R. H. Krayevskyi fundamental for contemporary special education.
