The dissertation is devoted to the investigation of semantics and structure of the folk geographical names in Ivano-Frankivsk region. Synchronic review has resulted in analysis of lexis used to name geographical objects of relief and water resources. Their etymology and basic semantic, lexical and derivational peculiarities taken in conjunction with the modern literary Ukrainian language, dialects of the Ukrainian language and some related Slavic languages have been studied.
