Essay

The research investigates the state of body non-specific resistance, peculiarities of the cellular and humoral components of the immune system, activity of oxidative processes, state of enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of antioxidant system, peculiarities of cytokine profile, severity of endogenous intoxication in rabbits with alkali chemical burns of the cornea associated with hypothyroidism. It was established that a burn process in the cornea associated with hypothyroidism is accompanied by a prolonged course with a predominance of degenerative processes which were more significant in comparison with euthyroid animals, changes in non-specific body resistance, characterized by reduction of indices of spontaneous and induced test with nitroblue tetrazolium, phase changes in the activity of oxidative processes, more expressive inhibition of enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of antioxidant protection. Presence of hypothyroidism in the experimental animals, with simulated chemical burn of the cornea led to more significant violations of the immune system characterized by immunosuppression, there were phase changes of pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines level, increased endogenous intoxication. Use of keratoxenoimplant to close burned cornea had a positive influence on the course of burn process in the eye and was accompanied by a partial restoration of studied parameters.
