The essence of social and economic system of society is investigated as well as its space and architectonics are defined and the mechanism of functioning and development is characterized. The system of criteria of classification and the comparative analysis of social and economic systems is developed and their features at the level of the world, the EU and Ukraine are revealed. Conceptual provisions of methodological approach to governing a functioning and development of social and economic system as well as scientific and methodical approach to ensuring its productivity and sustainability are offered.
