Object of research: social relations that arise during the organization and activities of the military justice institute. The aim of research - to cover, based on comprehensive scientific study, historical and legal principles of the establishment, organization and activities of Soviet military justice bodies in Ukraine in 1939-1942, as well as features of their transformation at the beginning of the Second World War. To achieve the objectives of the research, the following general scientific methods of scientific knowledge were used: concrete historical, comparative historical, historical description, systemic and structural, formal and legal and special scientific methods: dialectical, comparative legal, logical, systematic, chronological, diachronic and others. The purpose of the research is achieved by addressing the following key objectives: analyzing the state of scientific development of problems raised in research, clarification of completeness of source provision, identification of theoretical and methodological principles of research in order to cover the issue in full, articulating the concept of "military justice", reconstruction of historical and legal phenomena and events that influenced the establishment of the Military Justice in Ukraine in 1939-1942, researching system and organizational structure, identifying tasks and activities, procedural peculiarities of investigation of criminal cases, setting characteristics of criminal and legal qualification of crimes in military tribunals and provision of historical and legal assessment of the activities of military justice bodies in the USSR in the period of 1939-1942. During the research, there were tasks set and solved that collectively allow to fill gaps in the historical and legal science regarding law-making processes that have shaped the establishment, organization and activities of Soviet military justice bodies in Ukraine in 1939-1942, while the results of the study can be taken into account in the reforming of law enforcement bodies and military organization of the state. Results of the research were tested during 6 international and national conferences and used in scientific and educational activities, on which three acts of implementation were executed : Institute of training of legal personnel for Ukrainian SSU of National University of Law named after Yaroslav the Wise (act of 03.06.2015), National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" (act of 05.06.2015), National University of Defense of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyakhivskyi (act of 02.06.2015). The resulting scientific achievements may be used in the educational process in higher military and other educational institutions in the course of studying the history of state and law.
