Musіy J. Mergers and Acquisitions as a Factor Ensuring the Competitiveness of Banking Institutions

The dissertation has improved the theoretical and methodological approaches to determination of the nature and interrelations between mergers and acquisitions and competitiveness of banks. The dissertation has defined the specific features and conditions to ensure the competitiveness of newly established banking institution to be realized at national and corporate levels. International experience in regulating of mergers and acquisitions as a factor of competitiveness has been systematized. Methodical approach to integrated assessment of mergers and acquisitions influencing the competitiveness of banks has been grounded on the basis of selected components of competitiveness of banking institutions (income, assets, loans, deposits, asset market share, profitability, balanced financing). The main trends and characteristics of the formation of competitiveness of banks, which conducted mergers and acquisitions of Ukrainian banks in 2005 - 2014 years have been defined. The directions and perspectives of improvement of competitive policy in Ukrainian banking sector have been given, based on adapting the best international practice. The key areas for improving the regulation of mergers and acquisitions in Ukrainian in terms of the competitiveness have been introduced. The main state regulatory measures in banking mergers and acquisitions to ensure their competitiveness have been proposed.
