The thesis deals with the issues of shaping Orthodox tombstones under the compositional principles and technological methods. The structure and content of the study are formulated on the ground of analyzed preconditions and historical aspects of the evolution of Ukrainian orthodox tombstone. The sacred objects of Lukyanivka necropolis (presently available) are considered. The general classification and nomenclature of the tombstones are improved. The basic typological groups according to their composition, design, ornamental, formative, information characteristics are ascertained. It is proved that a synthesis of style, composition, design and technological features of a monument determine its integrity and aesthetic perfection as an object of architecture and design. The requirements of content and compositional characteristics of the tombstones are formulated. It is proved that the principle of proportioning was one of the most important means of geometric design of aesthetically perfect form of the tombstones of Kyiv necropolis during this period. The principles, means, methods and recommendations concerning modern design and restoration of sacred memorial objects are formulated.
