Essay

The results of investigations of the vacuum ultraviolet radiation generation from the dense plasma of multiply ionized tin atoms have been presented. The possibility of generating a series of directional powerful (1 MW) peak (100-200 ns) pulses of vacuum ultraviolet radiation from the plasma of high-current pulse limited diode in tin vapours has been shown. The dependences of the energy and the directivity of radiation peak pulses from the discharge parameters, the potential electrode diameter and the external magnetic field have been established. The beam mechanism of additional plasma heating has been identified. This mechanism ensures the generation of peak radiation pulses. It has been shown that the electron beam formation occurs in the electric double layer which is formed in the dense plasma near the limited electrode surface. The correlation between the plasma column shape and the radiation directivity has been observed. The phenomenological physical model for the mechanism of directional radiation generation from plasma with specific configuration has been developed.
