Essay

Thesis deals with investigation of the role of feature cinema in political processes of modern society and, in particular, in processes of political socialization and legitimation of political power. In the thesis research study of the role of feature cinema in political processes is realized on the basis of set of instruments and methodology traditionally used for investigation of political processes. Position of feature cinema in political processes is determined according to the main approaches applicable to selection of components of such processes. In the context of subjective approach the author defines cinematography as a specific resource in political process. According to the system approach, factor of cinema influence stands out: within the framework of institutional subsystem - in the course of formation of ideas regarding state priorities and interests and in the process of legitimation of political power and state institutions; in normative subsystem - in the course of creation of ethical models in the field of politics and in the process of dissemination and assimilation of political participation norms; in functional subsystem - in the course of conceptually stylistic visual representation of political regime; in communicative subsystem - in the course of formation of political discourse; in mental and ideological subsystem - in the course of formation of political culture and in the process of national history image creation. Subjects of the use of cinema for political reasons are determined. The author divides them into political and non-political subjects. Ideologically motivated authors of a film and the state via its related authorities or particular persons belong to political subjects and to non-political - society by means of cinema business which gives particular shape to social demands, and politically unmotivated authors of a film. Present-day mass society is defined as an object of influence of feature films in political process, which due to specific features of functioning of communication process is easily affected by political impact on the side of cinema. Subject matter of feature films impact on the process of political socialization of a person is brought to light by means of analysis of cinema peculiarities as a form of art and mass media. Feature films impact on the process of political socialization is defined as three-aspect process which comprises: psychological aspect, aspect of consumption of media content and aspect of interiorization of politics in its aesthetical (artistic) expression. Key peculiarities of cinema impact as media on political socialization are defined as follows: illusory character of cinematographic image, understated level of spectator demands regarding content trustworthiness, relatively high level of emotional component of information perception, absolute fabulousness of the shown events and their perception by a spectator as almost real ones, factor of perception of events from the first person perspective, relative "authoritarianism" of communicative conditions of film perception, great degree of distance between cinema and current political events, presence of influence on that part of a society which is not interested in politics, functioning of political films in the field of entertainment and leisure time. Key peculiarities of cinema impact as an art on political socialization are factors of its synthetic character (film is the result of synthesis of artistic and communicative means of complex of other arts) and technology-related character (widespread use of modern technological opportunities for influence on a spectator).
