Polovynkina M. Semantics and Pragmatics of Color Terms in Polish Poetic Discourse (late 19th - first half of the 20th century)

The thesis deals with comprehensive analysis of Polish color terms in the poetry language of the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. The author analyzed semantic and pragmatic features of the color terms in poems by K. Przerwa-Tetmajer, J. Kasprowicz, L. Staff, J. Tuwim, M. Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, M. Wolska, B. Ostrowska, K. Illakowiczowna. The analysis of male and female poems ensured the gender balance. The author investigated chromatic, achromatic, "metallized" color terms and the lexemes which are associated with the names of colors. The quantitative analysis gave an opportunity to establish the frequency of the color terms using and their impact on the recipient. The functions of the color terms have also been analyzed.
