The purpose of the dissertation is the study of the distribution mallophagoses of domestic pigeons in Ukraine, improving methods of diagnosis, and determining the effectiveness of modern insecticides and other methods of treatment. Five species of chewing lice have been discovered in Ukraine (order Phthiraptera, suborder Ischnocerae, family Philopteridae and suborder Amblycera, family Menoponidae). For the first time in Ukraine described species Coloceras damicorne and Colpocephalum turbinatum . New data about the nutrition type of Нohorstiella lata have been received. The research is the first in Ukraine to give data about biological features and the egg morphology of discovered chewing lice species. Investigated correlation of extensiveness and intensity of invasion and places of localization of found species of chewing lice with the time of year and age of domestic pigeons. The work describes the period of early infection of young pigeons of such species, as Columbicola columbae, Campanulotes compar and Hohorstiella lata. It also studies pathogenic effect of chewing lice vital activity on pigeons' organisms according to the species and the invasion intensity. For diagnostics of ectoparasitic deseases, treatment of mallophagoses of poultry and pigeons is encouraged to use: "Methodical recommendations for the diagnostics and prevention ectoparasites of birds in individual and small farms", "Methodical recommendations on epizootology, diagnostics and prevention of ectoparasites of domestic pigeons", "Method of intravital diagnostics of ectoparasites of birds".
