Essay

In the thesis for the first time in Ukrainian Religious Studies the genesis, biblical and conceptual framework, functional manifestations of religious practices of Catholic pilgrimage is investigated. It is proved that the pilgrimage has an important place in the Catholic religious cult and cultural heritage of European culture. Pilgrimage is defined as common in many religions cult practice, understood as a pious journey with expressive religious purpose of adoration of God to a particularly venerated places endowed with properties sacredness through presence in buildings of sacred texts, the manifestation there supernatural, presence founders of religions or famous members of the clergy, saints, with special authority and charisma, presence of revered worship the icons or sculptures. Outlined the basic concepts that define the confessional specificity of pilgrimage Catholic Church: sanctuary, cavalry, Canonical Coronation, indulgence, ad limina apostolorum. It is proved that in the Middle Ages in Western Europe the pilgrimage was perceived in the context of dualistic perception of the world with its doubling in earthly and otherworldly being, in the Christian model of "wandering life" ("peregrine vita") as an imitation of Jesus Christ. Determined that in the Catholic cult occupy a special place a sanctuaries as a canonical place for gatherings believers and worships, receive spiritual indulgences. interrelations of religion and science, church and school, personality and socium and so on.
