Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the mode of Ukraine in Czech prose at the close of the ХХ cent. - turn of the ХХІ cent. The study carries out the complex of modern literary techniques and methods. The thesis analyzes means and methods of construction historically linked with Ukraine localities and dynamics of its development through the context of dominant artistic and stylistic flows. The main stages of development of artistic and critical reception of Ukraine in Czech prose are determined: 1) Galicia in the Wartime ("The Adventures of the Good Soldier Shvejk" by J. Hashek; 2) interwar Transcarpathian "Transcarpathian trilogy" by I. Olbracht, works by K. Chapek, V. Vanchura; 3) Volyn at the close of the ХIХ cent. - first half of the ХХ cent. ("Volyn chronicles", feminine prose); 4) localities of labour migration of Ukrainians in XXI cent. (novel by P. Hulova). The material of dissertation allows determine main mechanisms of expression for preserving national identity by the means of literature in terms of emigration. The thesis offers narrative strategies of modelling images of Ukraine and Ukrainian in the paradigm Own / Foreign. Comparison of some authors of determined genre, analysis of modifications of Ukraine image of one author and transformation of its modality in different periods of time, exposure of similar and different features of authoress' poetics of various generations are motivated. The thesis generalizes principles of functioning and variants of the mode of Ukraine in interwar and modern Czech literature. The dissertation updates the influence of modern Czech prose with the mode of Ukraine on the development of the History of Czech literature and Czech / Ukrainian cross-cultural dialogue.
