Essay

The thesis is a theoretical and experimental study of the problem of forming of environmental knowledge of secondary school students in teaching physical geography. The work analyses the state of the problem in the theory and practice of teaching geography and proves the feasibility of using the term "environmental education". The thesis substantiates the content and structure of environmental knowledge in Physical Geography school courses, reveals the psychological, didactic and methodological features of the formation process of environmental knowledge of secondary school pupils on the basis of competence approach and ideology of sustainable development. It is proposed to supplement the content of Physical Geography school courses with the study of the rules of sustainable behavior in the environment and protected sea areas. The author developed methodical model of environmental knowledge of students in the physical geographic courses in the secondary school, which consists of targeted, semantic, procedural and efficient components. The indicators of mathematical processing results of the study calculated by empirical data confirmed the increasing levels of performance and stability of assimilation of the environmental knowledge by students. The results can be used in school practice of Geography teaching and in the education of future teachers in higher educational establishments, particularly through the introduction of the developed course "Geographical aspects of nature protection".
