In the thesis theoretical concepts and improved scientific and methodological principles of the regional banking system functioning are proved. Economic essence of the regional banking system and the functions it performs are specified. Institutional structure of the regional banking system is defined, and the directions of its development are proposed. The economic nature of the mechanism of the regional banking system functioning and its individual components is revealed. Current trends in regional banking systems development in Ukraine are identified.
