Roznovskiy Y. Identifіcation of laryngeal nerves while operating on the thyroid gland

This scientific work is devoted to prevention of laryngeal nerves from being injuried during surgical treatment on the thyroid gland. This work is based on the development of techniques connected with identifying and intraoperative monitoring of laryngeal nerves, paying attention to the subsequent allocation of nerves and their conscious preservation.Proposed method is based on the surgical wound tissues being stimulated with the fixed frequency AC 400 Hz and a voltage of 75 mV,emphasizing the fact that muscular and other tissues of wound have low conductivity while laryngeal nerves conduct electricity well.Developed method allows identifying laryngeal nerves while operating on the thyroid gland extremely accurate.There were identified and monitored lower laryngeal nerves in 156 patients operated on thyroid gland.
