Object of research: mechanisms of public administration of university science in Ukraine. Objective: to determine the mechanisms of public administration of university science in Ukraine and develop the practical recommendations of their implementation. Methods: sociological, hypothetical-deductive, structural and functional analysis, dialectic, systematic, statistical, and prognostic approaches. Results: the methodological bases of the definition of mechanisms of public administration of university science in Ukraine have been grounded and the practical recommendations for their implementation are developed. Novelty: the systematic approach to the improvement of the mechanisms of public administration of the scientific and research activity of higher educational institutions for the formation of the national innovation system has been scientifically substantiated; the strategic approaches to the improvement of the management and organization system of the scientific and research activity of Ukrainian higher educational institutions, which are connected with the formation of an effective mechanism of science financing in higher educational institutions and application of the project approach to the organization of scientific research in HEI, have been improved; the scientific-methodical and practical approaches to the assessment of the effectiveness of university science have been further developed, etc. The results have been implemented in the activities of the Department of Education and Science of Kharkiv Regional Public Administration, National University of Civil Protection of Ukraine and the Kharkiv Counselling Centre of the European University.
