Essay

The evolution of the instrumental solos in the orchestra have been studied in the thesis. The process of solo’s formation, the systematization of solos in music, and clarifying of terminology have been accomplished in the research. The solo in the thesis was examined in the theoretical-methodological and historical-chronological aspects in the First section. In the analytic aspect the solo has been studied in the Second section. The scores of Western European and Ukrainian composers (Beethoven, Berlioz, Brahms, Debussy, Mahler, Kalachevsky, Yakimenko, etc.) were used to prove the interdependence of the evolution and development of the orchestra solos. Unequal role of solo in different periods of time led to the division of orchestra’s history into two phases. The second phase, during which a solo transformation was particularly significant, divided into orchestral concepts. Each of the concept presents a new stage of solo’s evolution.
