Essay

The thesis addresses an important ecological problem - the development of a rational approach to leaching of heavy metals from the solid phase of sewage sludge by means of chemical-biological methods. The accumulation of heavy metals in municipal sewage sludge was described in detail. The mechanism of the chemical-biological leaching of heavy metals from sewage sludge by iron-oxidizing bacteria under addition of ferrous iron was found. The rational leaching of heavy metals from sewage sludge in a semi-periodical continuous stirred tank reactor with a positive feedback loop was proposed and tested.
