The thesis presents a theoretically substantiated and experimentally proven methodology of formation of activity (strategic) competence of pupils at Ukrainian language lessons in the basic school.The results of the pedagogical experiment allow to state that: 1) activity (strategic) competence is a kind of communicative one, which includes as well language, speech and socioculturalcompetences; 2) communicative competence is a part of the group of interdisciplinary(basic, key, essential) competencies and is regarded as the communicative ability of the pupil to use justifiedmeans of the Ukrainian language in communication, cognitive and learning activities, which are normative, accessible and understandable for all communication participants; 3) activity (strategic) competence as one of the most important varieties of communicative competence is interpreted as the ability of apupil to determine the purpose of his
