The thesis theoretically substantiates and experimentally tests a methodology of developing future philologists’ reproductive grammar skills in the use of French past tense verb forms while learning French as a second foreign language. The author defines psychological, psycholinguistic and methodological prerequisites for the development of grammar competence in the process of a second foreign language acquisition. There were established integrative and differential features of the most frequent francophone past tense forms in relation to each other, which provided the basis for the construction of general and specific algorithms of teaching conversational and literary style grammar structures. The types of pedagogic information for teaching the said verb forms were created. The author suggested a subsystem of exercises to develop grammar competence in the second foreign language acquisition, a set of exercises to develop reproductive grammar skills in the recognition and use of French past tense verb forms while learning French as a second foreign language, as well as the model of the teaching. The efficiency of the latter was proven following its experimental testing. Practical recommendations concerning the principles of the said methodology application, as well as an appropriate exercise book have been prepared.
