Objekt: works of old Ukrainian literature. Aim: research of the typology of female characters in old Ukrainian literature. Methods: hermeneutical, comparative, mythological, a theory of archetypes. Scientific novelty:for the first time in Ukrainian literary studies the general characteristics of female characters in old Ukrainian literature is presented; the typology of female characters depicted in Ukrainian medieval and baroque literary works is defined; the most typical artistical devices of describing female characters in old Ukrainian literature are discovered and distinguished.
