Essay

Toxic effects of 7 hydroxycoumarin (7 HOC) and their dependence on the dose and exposure duration in laboratory animals when the compound is used alone and as a mixture with ethyl alcohol were investigated because 7 HOC is proposed as dye for low alcohol beverages. Attribute effects of the long time exposure are affection of carbohydrates and lipids metabolism (serum glucose level decrease, serum triglyceride level rise), small intestine mucosa dystrophic changes. Established NOEL is 20 mg/kg. Mode of acute and subacute action of 7 HOC and ethanol mixture when given orally is identified as mainly independent.
