The dissertation solves the problem of improving results of intensive therapy in patients with severe thermal injury by studying the factors of development of burn encephalopathy and its clinical manifestations. The method of neuroprotective therapy was developed; it contributed to the restoration of cognitive functions that occurred in acute period of burn disease. Injury of nervous tissue was determined based on the increasing of neuron-specific enolase level at the first day of burn trauma. It was occurred under the influence of thermal factors and stress activation of hypothalamic-pituitary system. The development of insomnia, delirium, cognitive dysfunction and disturbance of psycho-emotional sphere were detected in patients. The degree of impaired memory and thinking correlated with damage to the nervous tissue. SIRS and metabolic manifestations of hypermetabolism-hypercatabolism syndrome influenced the duration of insomnia and delirium and cognitive dysfunction and results of HAM test. The comparative analysis revealed that the prescription of citicoline in complex intensive therapy in acute period of burn disease contributed to faster recovery of cognitive function and improving results of HAM test.
