The thesis deals with substantiation of the method of reducing the environmental hazard of dust emissions to the atmosphere by upgrading dust cleaners, and the assessment of long-term environmental and economic benefits of their use. The thesis analyses the impact of dust emitted by the private company "Dniprodzerzhinsk metallurgical plant" on air quality in the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk. A unit combining electric and centrifugal cleaning of dust --electrical cyclon--has been developed; its design allows upgrading the existing CN-type cyclones by adding the elements of electrical dust filters. The results of theoretical and experimental studies demonstrated that fractional efficiency of the electrical cyclone exceeds the same index of the battery cyclone BC 254 6 ? 90 by 8,9 - 11,3% for particulate fractions of 4-10 micron size, with the overall efficiency increase over 12.9%. The total economic impact of the electric cyclone for cleaning dust emissions from sinter plant makes 2,593 million UAH. With the modified model of dust dispersion and selected indicators the environmental safety improvement of air in the city of Dniprodzerzhinsk has been assessed in the case of electric cyclon application; this will reduce dust cioncentrations in different parts of the city by 0,94 - 3,27 of the sanitary limit value.
