Essay

The research presents a complex analysis of the Greek and Latin names of analgesics and antipyretics groups of drugs. The thesis comprehensively considers the history and development of the Greek and Latin origin pharmaceutical terminology and nomenclature. The results and conclusions of the thesis deepen some of the provisions of morphological variation, criteria for consideration of the research phenomenon in terminology, the specific of synonyms' functioning in the Latin pharmaceutical nomenclature. It states, that the specific language cause of synonyms in the pharmaceutical nomenclature is coexistence of research (systematic) name and trivial (conventional) name of drug. Synonyms series have a hierarchical structure, where the highest taxon takes the international nonproprietary name (INN) and the low - trade names (TN). Most pharmaconyms in the series are full or partial synonyms of the equivalent type, they represent the same denotation and consist of different genesis elements (Boldol, Dolodol, Algodol etc.). The correlation of concepts "synonyms" and "variation" in the pharmaceutical nomenclature is analyzed.
