Essay

The subject of the study is the actualization of English speech-and-music works in communication. Communicative and cognitive properties of intonation functioning in speech-and-music works constitute the scope of the research. The scientific research objective is to define the properties of speech-and-music works' oral actualization by revealing communicative and cognitive patterns of their prosodic arrangement. The research methodology is based on the functional-and-communicative approach towards the study of English speech-and-music works' prosodic arrangement; theoretical principles of phonetics, phonology, and musicology; the principle of conserving the utterance emotional-and-pragmatic potential. The comprehensive methodological procedures of the scientific research is based on the general provisions of system analysis using general scientific (abstracting, generalization, formalization), empiric-and-theoretic (analysis, synthesis, comparison) and special (semantic, auditory and acoustic analyses) methods as well as methods of quantitative analysis, linguistic observation and description. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the comprehensive experimental phonetic study of speech and music integrated functioning in speech-and-music works; systematization of speech-and-music works' lingual features; classification of speech-and-music works; synergetic modeling of speech-and-music work's production and actualization by the sender; substantiating and experimental ascertainment of the invariant model of speech-and-music communication as well as its variants. The theoretical significance of the thesis is determined by the comprehensive study of speech and music intonation means interaction in speech-and-music communication, which makes a contribution to the General Phonetics, Communicative Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Phonostylistics, Rhetoric, Speech Communication Theory and Pragmalinguistics. The practical value of the obtained results lies in the possibility to apply them in teaching Theoretical and Practical Phonetics of English ("The Language Phonological System", "Segmental and Supra-segmental Language Levels", "Phonostylistics", "Speech Intonation", "Intonation of the Text"), General Linguistics ("Language and Speech", "Language and Mind", "Language and Non-verbal Means of Communication") as well as in optional courses in Text Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Communicative Linguistics, Culture of Speech, Psycholinguistics.
