For the first time in the domestic legal literature, a comprehensive analysis of civil legal regulation of housing as an property right object. Studied the development and current state of civil relations of property for housing. Author gives the basic definition for the terms used in relation to housing ownership, as: housing needs, housing, housing unfit for living. Studied the classification of housing types. Deals with the legal regime of housing unfit for living. Special attention is paid to the protection of proprietary rights to housing at the Ukrainian courts and the European Court of Human Rights. Considered the legal regime of housing depending on the entities which own it is, namely the legal regime of housing owned by the state, local communities, individuals and legal entities. Researched the features of realization of the housing property rights by these subjects and ways of acquisition and termination of housing property rights, typical only for certain subjects of property housing rights. Made proposals to improve legislation and practical issues that are appear in the implementation of housing property right. Special attention is paid to individual characteristics of different of housing ownership rights.
