Kuravska N. Volitive Modality in Modern Ukrainian Fiction

The study deals with complex analysis of the category of volitive modality taking into consideration the peculiarities of functioning of means of expression of modal meanings of will in modern Ukrainian fiction. The dissertation justifies the linguistic status or the category of volitive modality, determines the essence, semantic structure, functional and semantic specificity of this category; analyzes the communicative situation of will in the system of its components, examines the means of expression of volitive modality; suggests step-by-step complex technique of analysis of volitive modality. The study describes various points of view concerning the distinguishing of semantic patterns of volitive modality, basic principles of classification and differential features of semantic types of volitive modality; classifies the utterances with modal meanings of will on the basis of the semantic patterns of volitive relations. The dissertation analizes the peculiarities of realization of volitive modality taking into consideration the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic aspects; suggests the totality of means of expression of volitive modality in Ukrainian language.
