Essay

Dissertation is dedicated to the issue of the theatre of absurd’s ideas and their influence on west- and east-european contemporary musical theatre. The primary attention is concentrated on the operas of Morton Feldman “Neither” (after Samuel Backett) and Svyatoslav Lunyov’s “Moscow – Petushki” (after Venedikt Erofeev). In this investigation also mentions panoramic view of operas of last third of 20 – the beginning of 21 centuries, that are examples of new radical tendencies in musical theatre. Among the names are these: Michael van der Aa, Louise Andriessen, Philip Glass, Edison Denisov, Volodymyr Zubytsky, Leonid Desyatnikov, John Cage, Meredith Monk, Beat Furrer, Alfred Schnittke, Oleksandr Shetinsky etc. The theatre of absurd’s main ideas that especially influence on contemporary musical theatre are formulated in the conclusion of this dissertation.
