Dissertation is devoted to the improvement of preventive measures among infants - passive smokers with severe community-acquired pneumonia. For the first time in Ukraine revealed the prevalence of passive smoking among infants (24.5%), including hospitalized infants with severe community-acquired pneumonia of varying severity (32.7%). It is proved that the level of nicotine metabolite (cotinine) in the serum of infants is associated with the number of smokers in the family and the technique of feeding. The possibility of predicting severe course of acute community-acquired pneumonia based on the increase of blood cotinine levels (> 25 ng/ml), increased IgE levels, CRP (21.05±2.36 and 1.68±0.76, respectively) and the identification of heterozygous and mutant forms of the gene of the cytokine IL-4 (C-589T) - 76% and 89%, respectively, and detection of heterozygous and mutant forms of a gene of a cytokine TNF-a (G-308A) - 80 % and 83 % respectively. Established shortcomings of the antinicotine work of doctors in the Odessa region: own nicotine dependence, lack of awareness on the problem, the errors in the content of counseling, technology of antinicotine resistance, conducting of medical records, lack of own activity in carrying out preventive work.
