Essay

The object of the research is the system of graphic symbols (graphemics) in the Ukrainian linguo-culture (the alphabet, letters, unlettered symbols); the aim is to determine the grounds for the phenomenon of lexicalization and semantization of graphemes in the Ukrainian language, taking into consideration the peculiarities of their functioning in the Ukrainian discourse, and to define the pragmatic potential of the above-mentioned units of the Ukrainian linguo-culture; the methods,used in the research, are induction, deduction, analysis and synthesis, comparison, summarizing, linguistic modeling, analysis of classification; descriptive contextual, linguo-culturological, discursive, and linguo-stylistic; the novelty of the research: the phenomenon of lexicalization and semantization of graphemes in the Ukrainian linguo-culture and the graphic symbols of other linguo-cultures that function in the Ukrainian language (the Ukrainian Latin alphabet) has been investigated for the first time; extra- and inter-lingual factors that have influenced the development of the pragmatic potential of the analysed units have been summed up; the models of the typical meanings that appeared as a result of the phenomenon of semantization and connotation of Cyrillic and Latin graphemes and other symbols of the graphic system in the Ukrainian linguo-culture and the discursive practice of Ukrainians have been distinguished; the information about the formation of the Ukrainian linguography has been summed up; the results of the research: the practical material can be used in the lexicographical practice to compile a dictionary of the lexicalized and semantisized graphemes of the Ukrainian language and to describe their semantics and pragmatics, as well as while developing theoretical and practical courses in the modern Ukrainian language, the old Slavonic language, special courses in linguography, graphemics, historical commentary on the Ukrainian orthography, stylistics of the Ukrainian language, sociolinguistics, linguoculturology, linguopragmatics, and also while in scientific research of various qualification levels; field - linguistics.
