Essay

Object: discursive projects on European identity. Aim: sociological conceptualization of the European identity discursive construction process features. Methods of study: abstraction, generalization, analysis, synthesis, explanation, systematization, critical and interdisciplinary approaches, focus group interviews. Theoretic and practical achievements: it is proven that discursive-constructivist approach is the most productive for studying European Identity; it is revealed how the "othering" mechanism is operated in discursive cinstruction of the European identity; dominant discursive projects and contemporary European identity construction/deconstruction features are defined; it is defended that emergence of the European identity does not weaken national or local identities since its construction processes go in parallel with the reconstruction of national identities. Novelty: conceptualization of the European identity discursive phenomena construction features. Implementation: theoretical and empirical outcomes contributed to the improvement of academic courses in sociology, in particular they were used in the listed courses: "Sociology of youth", "Ethnosociology", "Politics of identity", taught at the IV year of study, "Contemporary sociological theories" - taught at the V year of study at Department of sociology, "Sociology" - at the IV year of study at Department of History at V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
