Object: text fragments of a small talk. Objective: the comprehensive geology analysis of a small talk as a specific phenomenon of the Ukrainian linguistic culture from the late 19th to the beginning of the 21st/. Methods: observation, description, distribution, discourse analysis, cultural-historical, linguoculturology approach, cognitive analysis, quantitative analysis. Scientific novelty: for the first time the comprehensive analysis of a small talk was done, its communicative and pragmatic organization was presented, the semantic and pragmatic transformation of secularism was investigated, the transformation over time of a small talk were pointed out and characterized, the linguistic indicators, representing the behavioral code of the small talk, were detected and differentiated. Practical value: the results of research may be used in modern Ukrainian language, functional stylistics, theory of speech communication, cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics lecture courses, in special courses related to the study of the theory and practice of communication.
