Essay

The thesis is devoted to Leipzig music-education traditions and their role in formation of new models of music education in Europe in the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century. In the scientific use a comprehensive notion the "tradition of Leipzig" is introduced to understand the context. This concept is raised at generalized level, it describes the essence of the educational model of the Leipzig Conservatory (1843), it absorbs the various forms of musical life in Leipzig as Old Saxon town, it involves creative views and activities of various musicians. It examines in details the Leipzig’s musical-education traditions as a component of Ukrainian pianistic culture: it researched learning experience of Mykola Lysenko (1842-1912) and Grygory Khodorovsky (1853-1927) when they were students at the Leipzig Conservatory. The features of pianism of these self-sufficient artists in aspect of following to precepts of their Leipzig’s piano mentors are proved in the inheritance of testaments founded by Leipzig School teachers. In this paper is actualized the scientific and educational achievements of Victor Iwanovsky (1880–1943), who left a significant mark in various fields of Ukraine musical culture in the first half of the 20th century. The main provisions of scientific theoretical pianistic concept of this scholar should help to determine the place and to highlight the "tradition of Leipzig" in Ukrainian piano school in the next after Lysenko's period.
