Essay

The thesis comprehensively investigated the policy of post-Soviet States of Central Asia to ensure security in the region in military, political, economic and humanitarian spheres. Analysis of the concepts of national security in the post-Soviet Central Asian States allowed us to identify transnational and cross-border, traditional and non-traditional threats to regional security. It is found that most of the security issues in Central Asia originate in time when the countries of the region were part of the former Soviet Union. Study security policies of Central Asian countries proved that the most important source of threats and challenges to national security are not external factors, but internal environment. Analysis of the participation of post-Soviet countries of Central Asia in regional and global security structures allowed to determine the priorities of the countries in the region to ensure the national interests in the security sphere. The analysis of problem of inter-state borders in Central Asia and the formation of a secure environment in the region showed that the main trend of the state and dynamics of the security situation in Central Asia is limited progress in addressing the issues of disputed territories and the absence of any serious military conflicts related to boundary disputes. Governance of the Central Asian region in ensuring energy security showed that the main efforts of the Central Asian States aimed at increasing production of strategic raw materials and their transportation to world markets through the pipeline system of the former USSR and the newly built highway.
