Shelestova Y. Literary reception of comic culture in the works of Pavlo Hlazovyi.

The dissertation is the first attempt in comprehensive study of different links between the works of Pavlo Hlazovyi and the Ukrainian comic culture. The thesis clarified the definition of “humorous culture”, its structure; found typological features of the Ukrainian culture of humor. The existence of close links between forms of Ukrainian comic culture and fiction are analyzed in detail. The characteristic features of folk joke (the most popular form of comic Ukrainian culture of the second half of the twentieth century) has been presented. An attempt is made here to analyze the origins of Pavlo Hlazovyi's worldview and his literary and aesthetic credo. It was investigated that he saw his duty to the nation in reporting “polynnohirkoyi truth” (i.e. “bitter truth”) to people; writing works for the people and about the people; in true simplicity and clarity of literature, etc.
