Essay

Dissertation develops the complete research of the civil religion phenomenon in the "state - religion institutions - civil society" level during The Orange Revolution and The Revolution of Dignity based on a wide range of theoretical literature and documental resources most of which were never taken as an object of religious studies. It has been proved that Ukrainian model of the civil religion is not a spontaneous phenomenon raised by the civil and political crisis but the phenomenon of developing state-civil-religious relationships during the whole history of independent state existence. It's base on polyreligious and polyconfessionality of the polyethnical population of the country demonstrating historically determined level of high religion tolerance and civil trust in religious institutions which were never close to political power and were close to the society. Civil religion in Ukraine is being considered as the manifestation of the "democracy of straight action" which is not created or controlled either by the government and political powers or civil associations, and being separated from those mentioned above, stands above confessional and ethnic borders, carrying out consolidation function, legitimizing and sacralizating state institutions and politicians who develop powerful independent Ukrainian state. In dissertation it has been proved that civil religion manifests through the new symbolic communication legitimizing the new stage of democratization of the society.
