Essay

There were performed an examination and treatment of 79 casualities with combined chest and brain injuries, as well as, of 35 injured with isolated thoracic trauma, aged from 20 till 70 years old. There were 93 (81,6 %) males and 21 (18,4 %) females among them.Particularities of clinical course of combined chest and brain damage were revealed in the paper. The frequency of chest injury symptoms appearance was estimated, at the same time, the diagnostic efficiency of the most widely spread methods of thoracic trauma additional investigation was evaluated among the patients with combined chest and brain damage. The indications for surgical fixation were extended. Moreover, the place of videothoracoscopy was precisely determined in algorithm of management of chest trauma combined with a brain injury, depending on the severety of consciousness suppression according to Glasgow Coma Score. The application of modificated algorithm of management allowed to accelerate consciousness recovery by 1,3 days, what was accompanied with 1,7 day swifter recovery of cognitive state and plunging of multiple organ failure syndrome severety. Nonetheless, it has no significant impact on morbidity and mortality.
