Essay

The object of the research is an addressee's indirect answers in the English everyday and institutional types of discourse. The subject of the research is structural, semantic and linguo-pragmatic properties of an addressee's indirect answers in the everyday and institutional types of discourse. The aim of the research is to define the properties of the "addresser - addressee" interaction with the violation of the "question - direct answer" correlation as well as the determination of the structural, semantic and linguo-pragmatic properties of an addressee's indirect answers in the everyday and institutional types of discourse. The methodological basis of the research is the works of functional and communicative studios, linguistic pragmatics, the theory of discourse, structural and semantic peculiarities of language units and the theory of non-verbal communication. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by the analysis of the structural, semantic and linguo-pragmatic properties of the organization of the "question - indirect answer" dialogical exchange in the everyday and institutional types of discourse, the determination of an addressee's role as an active participant in the "question - answer" dialogical exchange, the description of an addressee's communicative tactics within the strategy of evading a direct answer and the study of the discursive interaction of verbal and non-verbal means of communication in the realization of the strategy of evading a direct answer. The theoretical significance of the paper is determined by its contribution to the theoretical grammar of the English language, to the studies of communicative linguistics, linguistic pragmatics, sociolinguistics and the theory of discourse that enables to deepen the knowledge of the intentionality of interpersonal relations. The practical value of the paper lies in the possibility to apply the obtained results in teaching theoretical and special courses of the theoretical grammar of the English language (themes "The Semantics of the Sentence", "The Interrogative Sentence", "The Pragmatics of the Sentence"), special courses of the theory of discourse, the theory of non-verbal communication and sociolinguistics.
