Essay

Thesis presents the theoretical analysis of the research problem, outlines psychological essence and structure of the phenomenon of "national identity". Such criteria as students' awareness of their national belonging, students' emotional attitude towards their own national identity, students' emotional attitude towards the representatives of their nation and other nations have been outlined. Besides, high, medium and low levels of students' national identity development have been described. The following Thesis empirically reveals psychological factors, social factors (e.g. professional education acquired by students in higher educational institutions, knowledge of the main features of their own nation and other nations obtained both independently and through interactions with the representatives of different nations, students' interactions with important members of their own nation and the representatives of other nations) and psychological factors of students' national identity development (e.g. students' positive attitude towards the representatives of their nation and tolerance towards other nations). The efficiency of the author's programme of students' national identity development has been proved.
