Essay

The object of the study is the social space within the shopping mall structure. The purpose of research is developing principles and recommendations for the architectural and planning organization of social space within the shopping mall structure. To achieve the objectives set, author used a complex of theoretical and empirical research methods. The meaning of the concept of "social space of a shopping mall" was extended. For the first time in the domestic theory and practice of architecture the typology of shopping malls was developed as well as their elements were differentiated. Author substantiated five principles of social space’s architectural and planning organization based of physical, psychological, social and aesthetic needs of visitors. In accordance with these principles, recommendations on architectural and planning organization of social space based on metric, typological and aesthetic characteristics were formed. The results of this scientific research can be used: when adjusting the domestic regulatory framework for shopping malls design; when designing new and reconstructing existing multifunctional shopping and entertainment facilities; in the educational process during the development of assignments for course work as well as bachelor and master thesis in universities of architectural direction; in further scientific research concerning the architectural and planning organization of multifunctional trade and entertainment objects.
