The thesis is a comprehensive study in the field of theory and methods of music teaching concerning formation of piano-performing culture of the future music teachers in the process of professional traning at pedagogical university. In the thesis the essence of piano-performing culture of the music teacher is defined, which is treated as a set of personality characteristics (knowledge, skills, values and abilities) caused by the piano-performing culture of society that has been learned by a definite person who transfers it to his pupils. The theoretical model of the defined phenomenon, the structure of which includes aesthetic, information, empirical-gnostic, artistic-technical and musical-pedagogical components, is developed. Didactic foundations of existing methods of forming piano-performing culture of the future music teachers by means of "piano schools" are found out: a) systemic integrity of music content of "school" as a guarantee of organic integrity of the teaching methods; b) possibility of permanent return to previous stages in order to correct errors and deepen acquired skills; c) visibility of the training course, the ability of a "piano school" to be a concentrate of personal experience and the subject of music-performing reflection. The methodological principles of the manual for piano playing ("piano school") construction for the future music teachers are formulated. It was established that these principles are: a) artistic value of the works included in the "piano school"; b) musical-language, genre, stylistic and technical representation of music content of the "piano school"; c) consequenceness in organizing of all content of the "piano school"; d) concise verbal-textual and visual content; e) synopticity as the principle of visual presentation of musical, verbal and illustrative material; g) stimulation of students' creative actions in dealing with music content of the "piano school". The criteria (aesthetic, information, empirical-gnostic, artistic-technical, musical-pedagogical) and the levels of the future music teachers' piano-performing culture formation are defined. The effectiveness of author's methodology of the future music teachers' piano-performing culture formation in the process of training at the pedagogical university is experimentally tested. The methodology is based on the pedagogical principles of culture-centredness, multiculturalism, interaction, developmental and game learning, syncretism. In the thesis a number of methods of forming these aspects of piano-performing culture is proposed.
