Essay

Within this research the sacred text is seen as culturally engaged phenomenon. Sacral Latin text is, on the one hand, culturally marked phenomenon of European antiquity, product of the mythological thinking; but on the other - pragmatically engaged speech act, which is represented mainly by directives and requestives on the background of a powerful nonverbal component (ritual symbolism of numbers, colors etc.). Thirdly, sacral Latin text might be seen as a performative speech act. At last, it could be interpreted in terms of multifunctional code within which verbal components of all structural levels of its organization intercorrelate and result into synergetic semantic integrity, pragmatically aimed to fulfill the intentions of the curse subject. The typology of the sacred texts is outworked basing on the criteria of sphere of realization, style, chronotop, authorship, motives of creation of the sacred text, etc. Magic (ritual) and religious (universal) sacred texts are being distinguished. Such genres of Latin sacred texts as plates of legal character, love curse, grave plaques, revenge curses were outlined.
