Essay

The thesis presents the results of the research of the radiological efficiency of the implementation of mineral fertilizers (NPK) and ameliorants in the late phase of the Chernobyl accident. A significant decrease in the level of radioactive contamination of the vegatative mass of forage crops was not revealed under the implementation of mineral fertilizers at the contaminated сhernozemic soils. At the same time, the implementation of mineral fertilizers as part of a complex of anti-radiation measures at the sodpodzolic peat soils is still effective. Radiological efficiency of mineral fertilizers depends on the ratio of N:K in it. The radiological efficiency of the countermeasures such as implementation of complex ameliorants (sand + ash), aimed at the reducing the soil bioavailability of 137Cs to the vegetative mass of forage crops, was estimated through the vegetation radiological studies. The intensity of the 137Cs accumulation by a forage crop of red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) under the implementation of ameliorants in different doses and combinations, as well as their effect on the accumulation factor (AF) for 137Cs was estimated by the experimental data on the 137Cs specific activity in phytomass of the studied plants. High values of radiological efficiency of the implementation of the proposed radiological countermeasures in the late phase of radiation accidents were obtained. The implementation of these countermeasures is appropriate due to the availability of sand and ash in this region. Sand is located directly under a layer of peat at a shallow depth of 30-50 cm, and in this regard, it is possible to avoid additional costs of its purchase and delivery to the site of implementation.
