Essay

The object of the research is post-Soviet party systems with a dominant party. The subject of the study is the specifics of the formation, functioning and evolution of the party system with the dominant party in Ukraine. The thesis is devoted to a complex comparative study of the specifics of the formation, functioning and evolution of dominant parties in the context of non-patrimonial institutions and practices in the post-Soviet countries in general and in Ukraine in particular. It has been used the following research methods: neo-institutional analysis, comparative method, comparative and historical method, structure and functional method, system's method. A proprietary typology of party systems with a dominant party is proposed, in which systemically dominant and dominant-patronage parties are clearly delineated. Research materials can be used in scientific and teaching activities, and individual research results can be used to further study the phenomenon of the dominant party, and to promote political reforms in Ukraine in the context of building a party system of the European type.
