A profound research of the linguistic heritage of Jaroslav Bohdan Rudnyckyj is done in the thesis. A consistent analysis of a scholar's scientific biography is given, his linguistic priorities are determined. The concept of Ukrainian language origin pursued by the scholar is revealed. Нis views on Ukrainian literary language development, its periodization and factors of historical influence are analyzed, the problems and perspectives of Ukrainian language functioning in mainland Ukraine and in Diaspora in the linguist's interpretation are elucidated. Jaroslav Bohdan Rudnyckyj's main lexicographic works are characterized. The linguist's contribution to the development of Ukrainian dialectology and onomastic are valued. The importance of the author's linguistic views in his time and its actuality in present Ukrainian linguistic development are shown.
